Carte des voyages de Notre Seigneur Jesus Christ
et ceux des Apotres St Pierre et St Paul dans l'Asie et dans l'Europe
Original etched map of the regions of the Eastern Mediterranean dated 1747 in the central cartouche, showing the trip of Christ and the Apostels Peter and Paul in Asia and Europe based on the text of the New Testament, a smaller map of Judea at the times of Herod and a plan of Jerusalem, from an example of the Atlas d'étude pour l'instruction de la Jeunesse, composé de trente-six cartes, par Robert de Vaugondy Géographe. Corrigé et augmenté par Delamarche son Successeur published in Paris by Delamarche and Dien after 1817 (the name of Delamarche and his address in Paris is shown in the small cartouche upper right).
Very nice example printed on laid paper with watermark Chapelet similar to Heawood 244, found in a Vaugondy's Atlas Universel dated 1793, relating to French paper production of the late XVIIIth century and beginning of the XIXth, with wide margins around the platemark, the central vertical fold due to the binding and others vertical and diagonal ones, browning and slight waterstaining at the borders otherwise in good condition with a recent bright accurate watercolouring.
