Original steel engraving from the bronze sculpture by John Henry Foley (Dublin 1818 London 1874) appeared in 1859 on the famous English Art Periodical The Art Journal published in London by Virtue & Co. from the thirties of the nineteenth century to the early twentieth century.
Very nice example in excellent general conditions.
Henry Hardinge (1785 1856) was an important British Army Officer that spent a long time of his career in India where he became Governor General from 1844 to 1848, leading the Army in the socalled First Sikh War.
The bronze equestrian statue by Foley was completed in 1857 to stand on the maidan in front of the Government House in Calcutta that will be the Capital of British India it remained there until 1950 when was returned in England and set up on a Hardinge family property in Kent. At present it is located in the garden of a home in the rural village of Over in Cambridgeshire.
