Moses parting the Red Sea
Original etching and engraving signed on plate lower right Callot in., very high quality contemporary anonymous copy of Lieure 665.
Beautiful example printed with strong contrast on laid paper showing a watermark Coat of arm with letter capital F on three mounts similar to Heawod 2616 relating to italian paper production of the thirties of the seventeenth century, with wide margins around the platemark, with mild fingermarking on the right lower side and a few spots of foxing here and there otherwise in very good general condition.
Image depicts Moses parting the Red Sea, enabling the escape of the Hebrews from Pharaoh, with innumerable figures strewn throughout the scene from an encampment atop the bluffs, making their way across the parted waters. Moses and Aaron are in the foreground , the first with a raised staff, while a group of Israelites carry the Ark of the Covenant, on the background Pharaoh and his army are engulfed by the sea.
